Boundary Layer Resolving Pseudospectral Methods for Singular Perturbation Problems
Pseudospectral methods are investigated for singularly perturbed boundary value problems for ordinary diierential equations which possess boundary layers. It is well known that if the boundary layer is very small then a very large number of spectral collocation points is required to obtain accurate solutions. We introduce here a new eeective procedure, based on coordinate stretching and the Che...
متن کاملA Fitted Second Order Finite Difference Method for Singular Perturbation Problems Exhibiting Dual Layers
Abstract In this paper a fitted second-order finite difference method is presented for solving singularly perturbed two-point boundary value problems with the boundary layer at both end (left and right) points. We have introduced a fitting factor in second-order tri-diagonal finite difference scheme and it is obtained from the theory of singular perturbations. The efficient Thomas algorithm is ...
متن کاملSingular Perturbation Analysis of Boundary Value Problems for Differential-Difference Equations. V. Small Shifts with Layer Behavior
In this paper, an investigation is initiated of boundary-value problems for singularly perturbed linear second-order differential-difference equations with small shifts, i.e., where the secondorder derivative is multiplied by a small parameter and the shift depends on the small parameter. Similar boundary-value problems are associated with expected first-exit times of the membrane potential in ...
متن کاملChebyshev finite difference method for a two−point boundary value problems with applications to chemical reactor theory
In this paper, a Chebyshev finite difference method has been proposed in order to solve nonlinear two-point boundary value problems for second order nonlinear differential equations. A problem arising from chemical reactor theory is then considered. The approach consists of reducing the problem to a set of algebraic equations. This method can be regarded as a non-uniform finite difference schem...
متن کاملA finite difference method for free boundary problems
Fornberg and Meyer-Spasche proposed some time ago a simple strategy to correct finite difference schemes in the presence of a free boundary that cuts across a Cartesian grid. We show here how this procedure can be combined with a minimax-based optimization procedure to rapidly solve a wide range of elliptic-type free boundary value problems.
